New to riding? Everything you need to gear up safely, in plain English, on any budget — the ATGATT starter kit.

If you are buying your first set of gear, this is the hub to read first. The motorcycle world throws acronyms and price tiers at new riders and expects them to just know — this hub exists to fix that, without the fear- mongering and without pretending you need to spend two thousand dollars to be safe.
The organizing idea is ATGATT — All The Gear, All The Time. It is not about looking hardcore; it is the simple observation that crashes do not schedule themselves for the days you happened to wear your armor. The five pieces that make up a full kit are a certified helmet, an armored jacket, gloves, boots, and body armor (at least a back protector). Riding pants matter too, but those first five are the non-negotiables.
You do not have to buy it all at once, and you do not have to buy the expensive version. A complete, genuinely protective beginner kit — DOT+ECE helmet, Level 1 armored jacket, CE gloves, and CE boots — is very achievable on a modest budget, and it protects you far better than a premium helmet worn with a hoodie. Prioritize a good helmet and good gloves first; those two carry the most protection per dollar.
Read the beginner gear guide for the full walk-through, grab the gear checklist before you shop, and if the acronym is new to you, start with what ATGATT actually means. Welcome to riding — gear up and enjoy it.
