Affiliate disclosure

How this site makes money, in plain language — because you deserve to know before you click a link.

As an Amazon Associate, Lid & Leather earns from qualifying purchases. When you buy through a link on this site, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

How our links work

Most of the product links on this site go to Amazon and carry our Amazon Associates tag. When you click one and make a purchase, Amazon pays us a small percentage of the sale. It costs you nothing extra — the price is exactly the same as if you'd gone to Amazon directly. Those commissions are what fund the research, hosting and time behind the site.

Our outbound buy links pass through a redirect on our own domain (you'll see /go/in the address) before landing on the retailer. That's standard affiliate link handling; it lets us keep links tidy and swap a retailer without rewriting the page. Every earning link is also marked up as sponsored, per Google's guidelines.

Prices change — ours are dated

The prices we show are pulled live from Amazon and stamped with the date we checked them. They change constantly, and Amazon's price at checkout is always the one that counts. If our price data is more than 48 hours old, we hide the number rather than risk showing you a stale one. See our methodology for the details.

Commissions never change our rankings

This is the important part. No brand pays us for placement. No manufacturer sends us gear in exchange for a good review. And the size of a commission never moves a product up or down our rankings — which is exactly why you'll find cheaper products recommended over pricier ones that would pay us more. Our full independence standards are in the editorial policy.

Other retailers and programs

Amazon is our default retailer because it carries the gear our readers buy and it's reliable. If we ever add another retailer or affiliate program, we'll only do it when it genuinely serves you — a better price, better stock, or a product Amazon doesn't sell — and the same rule applies: it never buys a ranking.
