Leather, textile or mesh?

Leatherhas the best abrasion resistance per dollar and a classic look, but it's hot, heavy and poor in the rain. Textile (Cordura and similar) is lighter, cooler, waterproofable and usually cheaper for the same protection tier — the sensible default for touring and commuting. Read the armor, not the price

Every jacket here ships with CE-certified shoulder and elbow armor. The upgrade that matters most is a CE Level 2 back protectorin the jacket's back pocket — a foam pad is not a back protector. If your budget stretches, choose Level 2 limb armor too. A cheaper jacket with good armor that fits you beats a pricier one that doesn't.

Both are CE-certified impact protectors under EN 1621; Level 2 transmits less force in the test (a lower average is better), so it absorbs more energy at the cost of a little bulk. Do I need a waterproof jacket?
If you commute year-round or tour, yes — a laminated or membrane-lined jacket like the Andes V3 keeps you dry and warm, which keeps you alert. If you only ride in dry heat, a mesh jacket is cooler and cheaper, and a packable rain shell covers the occasional shower.
Does a jacket come with a back protector?
